4 Kinds of Pain from 8 Hours in front of the Computer
In our daily life, our computer is inseparable from us, whether at work or home. The computer has brought us revolutionary changes and has made our daily life much easier. However, computers also create new diseases such as “Mouse Hand”, neck pain and discomfort in the eyes. If you are working in an office that relies heavily on computer use, here are a few important issues to know. 

Computer Hand due to Excessive Use of Computer 
Hand and wrist pain due to excessive use of computer known as Computer Hand, a form of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). CTS is caused by pressure on the median nerve in the wrist. The symptoms include tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain of the fingers, hand and wrist. 

As a high risk group of the disease, computer workers and those who use computers, intensively need to do the following exercises to reduce the risk: extend the wrists, stretch the thumb, clench the fists, push palm against each other. These movements can improve the circulation of the muscles and tendons, therefore reduce the risk of CTS.

Back Pain due to Long Sitting 
Back pain is among the most common physical complaints of American adults and a leading cause of lost job time. For office workers with computers, long sitting is not only the cause of back pain but also the wrong body mechanics such as bending forward too much which greatly increases the pressure on the spine and intervertebral discs, and also increase the tension of back extension muscles and tendons. These are more likely to cause serious back pain. Mild back pain without treatment can easily develop into chronic back pain. We suggest computer related workers to extend their back and neck every half an hours and walk around 5 minutes every hour to allow the proper blood flow into the tension areas of the back. In addition, be sure to use the right body mechanics during the work.

Computer Vision Syndrome 
Staring at a computer monitor for hours has become a part of the modern workday, and it also puts a real strain on our eyes causing a disease called Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Research shows somewhere between 50% and 90% of people who work at a computer screen have at least some symptoms of eye trouble. CVS symptoms are blurred vision, double vision, dry and red eyes, eye irritation, headaches, neck and back pain. Over time if not treated, CVS can easily lead to more serious eye diseases like farsightedness and astigmatism. We suggest the following: cut the glare by change the lighting around you; rearrange your desk to make your monitor slightly below your eye level and about 20-28 inches away from your face; give your eye a break by look away from the screen every 20 minutes also; Adjust the brightness, contrast and font size until you find the best settings for your vision.

Computer Neck Pain 
Working a long time in front of a computer makes our neck immobilized, long time constant tension in the muscles and tendons causes poor circulation of the area, which may lead to osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis causes cartilage between the vertebrae to deteriorate forming bone spurs that affect joint motion and cause pain. If the nerves are compressed, pain in neck and shoulders, numbness, tingling and weakness in arms may appear. The worst could be the cervical degeneration compressing the carotid artery causing abnormal blood supply to the brain, therefore headache, dizziness, and memory loss will show up.
